The ELIG core mission is to focus on innovation in learning:ELIG has the strongest Industry group (growing fast!) and a consultation group from Academia and Research where key innovative players from the value net and the ecosystem are represented.
This focus on innovation is represented in key working groups dealing with subject such as eLearning Policy, digital content markets and Industry Value Proposition. ELIG is connected to thought leaders and leadership initiatives such as the Open Innovation Policy and Strategy Group (collaborative and open innovation, user innovation) and the Lisbon Council Think Tank, with their work on the Human Capital Index.
Regional Focus of ELIG: s ince last year ELIG has been cooperating with the European Training Foundation (ETF) regarding a study on how emerging countries from the Mediterranean region can benefit from experiences and solutions of the European learning industry. As a natural extension ELIG has started to connect to the ME region - we are a signatory of the Dubai eLearning Declaration. ELIG plans activities in the UAE in the second half of the year.
Policy Focus of ELIG: ELIG has again a strong Public Policy Group and is the only credible industry group with a strong representation of key players in the European learning and knowledge value net (Hardware, Software, Content/Publishing, Media, Consulting). ELIG also provides a common platform for commercial players and academic and research players. All core group members can shape the ELIG policy agenda with subjects such as infrastructure investment, interoperability, digital content standards and lifelong learning/human capital development on the agenda.
Technology Focus of ELIG : ELIG has key players in the field of video over IP and virtual presence as well as in the field of mobile learning. Infrastructure, Service Oriented Architecture and open standards have been and will continue to be a focus for ELIG.
ELIG provides a platform for its members to speak at major EU events and at international conferences (such as Online Educa). As a cross-industry group ELIG gives additional legitimacy to members to represent industry perspectives - not only their direct company. In this respect the major focus in 2008 will be for Online Educa Berlin and ELIG is also preparing an ELIG track for the next E-TQM conference in Dubai, that will cover much of the Middle-East.
Networking between members : the ELIG AGM (in autumn 2008 in Sestri Levante at Giunti Labs) provides a networking platform for ELIG members. Increased cooperation and "co-opetition" between member institutions is already happening when it comes to form consortia for EU projects. Alliances and even mergers have started to happen where the ELIG network was an element to bring parties together.
